Wood Post Mount Garden Hose Reel

What is the actual wood post dimension that the brackets will mount to? Lumber dimensions are a bit misleading. When the board is first rough cut from the log, it is to the true measurement, such as a 4" x 6" post. However, the drying process and planning of the board reduces it to its finished dimensions. As such, our reference to a 4"x 6" post, is actually a 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" post. The wood post kit that comes with this hose reel, is designed to fit on posts whose exact width is either 3-1/2" or 5-1/2". Can the hose reel wall plate be attached to the wood post in a horizontal position? No. The wall mount hose reel must be assembled into the parallel configuration and the wall plate rotated into a vertical position. The end of the wall plate in which the hose reel arm attaches to it can be positioned on either the top or bottom of the vertical positioning. What is the best height to mount the reel to the post? Because we are only discussing one variable at this time (height), consider the following ergonomic principles: 1) all work activities should permit the worker to adopt several different, but equally healthy and safe postures 2) where muscular force has to be exerted it should be done by the largest appropriate muscle groups available. 3) work activities should be performed with the joints at about the mid-point of their range of movement. This applies particularly to the head, trunk, and upper limbs. If possible, position the center of the reel six inches below your belt. Is it okay to mount this aluminum-alloy reel to a pressure-treated wood post? The pressure treatments ACQ – (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) and CA – (Copper azole) are very corrosive and contact with aluminum should always be avoided. The paint on the wood post L-shaped brackets should provide an adequate barrier. However, if you want additional protection, you can place a stainless-steel washer between each of the four wood post brackets and the pressure treated post. What size of hole should I dig for the wood post? We recommend the hole be 30 inches deep and 12 inches in diameter. We don't recommend an 8-inch diameter hole, following the recommendations of the concrete manufacturers. There must be enough concrete from the corner of the post to the edge of the hole. A 4 x 4 post in an 8-inch hole would only give 1-1/2 inches of concrete. Freeze-thaw cycles and loads on the post could easily crack that thin of material. Yes, The post-mounted hose reel can be removed from the axle/wall plate without removing the wall plate from the post. Please see the steps below. Disconnect your hose from the brass swivel. (You will leave your hose wrapped up on the reel for storage.) Unthread the brass swivel from the axle of the reel by loosening the silver retaining nut from the axle by turning it counterclockwise. Pull the swivel and about 6” of hose out the front side of the reel Unthread the brass swivel from the inlet hose. Slide the cam-lever brake off the axle. Slide the hose reel off of the axle and take it to your designated space for winter storage along with the swivel, brake, and inlet hose assembly. I don't see my question on this list. This innovative watering nozzle comes with four interchangeable stainless-steel screens, allowing you to select the best spray pattern for your watering needs. If your water supply has low flow, meaning you have low water pressure or volume, then you may need the 1 GPM Minimum screen to produce a spray pattern that doesn’t dribble. Can I buy the ELEY polyurethane garden hose without fittings on the ends? No. We only sell our polyurethane hose in finished, standard-length assemblies, which include one male and one female fitting. Does ELEY still make custom-length hoses? No. Instead, we now offer this repair tool, our full-flow & lead-free brass fittings, and our standard-length polyurethane garden hose from which you'll be able to make your own custom-length hose. Because of the labor-intensive processes involved in making custom-length hoses, we charged considerably more per foot than our standard-length hoses. With this process, you'll end up with two custom-length hoses (should you also choose to press a fitting onto the other cut length) and a garden hose fitting repair tool that can be used to install factory-quality pressed fittings onto almost any brand of garden hose for years to come. No more cheap after-market fitting repairs from the big box or hardware stores. Do the fittings and this tool work in repairing non-ELEY brand hoses? We have tested our repair tool and fittings on many hose brands, but not all of them. In addition, many of our customers have used this tool to attach the ELEY fittings to several other brands of 5/8-inch ID hoses, with excellent success. We would not recommend it for any collapsible (or self-retracting) hose, hoses with a metal cover, or hoses that have a multi-sided cover, like the one pictured. The tool and fittings are designed for a 5/8-inch ID garden hose ONLY. Are the fittings drinking water safe? Yes. Our fittings are made from lead-free brass and are 100% drinking water-safe. Do you offer this tool and repair fittings in a 3/4-inch ID? No. Sorry. 5/8-inch ID hose only. I've cut a fitting off a new ELEY hose. Can I reuse this fitting? Unfortunately, no. There is no acceptable safe way for the collar and barbed fitting to be disassembled and separated once pressed together. Are any other tools needed with this repair tool? We provide a hex key wrench for use with the repair tool. You can speed the process up by using a power drill with a 5 mm hex bit. You'll need to use a cutting tool of your choice for cutting the garden hose, where you'll press on and attach the new ELEY fitting.

Garden Hose Quick Connect Sets

Are replacement O-rings available for the plugs? Yes. They are Item #3041. We also recommend purchasing a tube of ELEY Silicone Grease, which is designed explicitly for our O-ring material. Periodically applying a thin coating of this 100% silicone grease to the O-rings will extend their life and improve performance. Does the socket stop the water flow when I remove the plug from it? No. The plug cannot be removed while under pressure. The water pressure must be first turned off before the quick-connect set can be separated. There are two methods of doing this. First, by shutting the water off back at the faucet/water source. The second method is to install a ball valve directly before the socket. (See photo) This will allow you to shut the water off right at the quick-connect set, without having to return to the faucet/water source. Eley offers two garden hose ball valves that work perfectly for this application, our straight Garden Hose Ball Valve and our Swivel Garden Hose Ball Valve. How will these perform in freezing temperatures? You'll likely have some difficulty. Even with water flowing in freezing environments, it doesn't take much moisture to cause the brass parts to stick together. In particular, it may be challenging to get the sleeve on the socket to slide to disengage the plug. The quick-connect sets were designed to operate in above freezing conditions. Is this item drinking water safe? Yes. Water flowing through your ELEY reels, hoses, and watering tools stays pure because we use only 100% drinking water-safe internal component materials. It's all safe from the lead-free brass and rubber seals down to the assembly lube. Are they compatible with other brands of quick-connectors? No. What maintenance is required? Depending on the frequency of use, the O-rings on the plugs should periodically be coated with a thin layer of Silicone Grease. This will not only improve the performance of the quick-connect set but also increase the life of the O-rings.
