The red cyclone wave logo was around from 1984 to 1994, after roughly two decades of Cy the Cardinal serving as the university’s primary athletic logo. Ten years after this logo’s retirement in 2005, an actual cyclone touched down in Ames before Iowa State’s game against Colorado, which the Cyclones ended up winning.
