Description

Echeveria 'Blue Prince' features dark, blue-grey leaves that form the perfect rosette shape. This succulent is so gorgeous in person, and it only gets better when exposed to bright light – an adequate amount of “sun stress” can even encourage ‘Blue Prince’s rosettes to blush pink! Each rosette can grow up to six inches wide, making it a great focal point in a potted succulent arrangement. Echeveria 'Blue Prince' needs plenty of bright sunlight to maintain its color and avoid etiolating, or stretching. Combined with ample airflow, porous soil with great drainage, and thorough watering only when the soil is completely dry, this unique succulent is likely to thrive as part of your collection – and will even send up stalks of red or pink blooms to reward your efforts! Care must also be taken to water at soil level, rather than by pouring water directly over the rosette, as droplets left sitting between the leaves can predispose the plant to rot. Hardy only to Zone 9, be sure to protect these fleshy leaves from extreme temperatures like severe heat and frost, to avoid sunburn or scarring.

Cotyledon pendens 'Cliff Cotyledon'

Cotyledon pendens 'Cliff Cotyledon'

The numerous stems of Cotyledon pendens 'Cliff Cotyledon' will quickly form a ‘curtain’ of draping foliage, reaching up to 2 feet in length. The pointed, oval leaves range in color from lime green to dusty blue, courtesy of a coating of powdery farina on the newest leaf sets. The margins of the leaves will flush a rich magenta hue in bright light, adding another layer of contrast to this exceptional plant – which would look right at home spilling over the rocks of a xeriscaped garden, or in a hanging basket positioned by a sunny window. Poor lighting and damp soil pose the biggest threats to ‘Cliff Cotyledon,’ so take care to provide plenty of bright light, porous soil within a well-draining pot, and deep but infrequent watering. Voracious growers, these plants can handle an occasional pruning to help maintain their size and shape, especially once they have begun to drape beyond the sides of their pot. Hardy only to Zone 10, ‘Cliff Cotyledon’ must be protected from freezing temperatures. With proper care, you can expect to see annual inflorescences of bell-shaped, red flowers of up to 2 inches in length.
