In 1953, the very year she joined Marimekko, Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi created Piccolo, a striped fabric pattern painted with vivid brushstrokes. Three years later, the Jokapoika (every boy) shirt made from the fabric appeared in stores and the streets – for good, it seems.

Pisteinen Unikko

The Pisteinen t-shirt dress is made of organic cotton jersey and it has a slim, A-line fit. The dress features the Unikko pattern, an O-neck with a self-fabric finish, and a central seam in the back. Unikko, symbolizing creativity, was born in a time when hardly any floral designs were included in Marimekko’s collections. Maija Isola, however, was fascinated by the theme of flowers and decided to create an entire range of novel floral prints.

The Potenssi organic cotton twill overshirt has a relaxed, straight fit, and it is printed in the Kukko ja Kana pattern. The overshirt has a pointed collar, a snap button closure, and loose sleeves that are finished with turned stitched hems. The shirt has two large patch pockets at the hip with slanted side openings. Checks and stripes have always been an integral part of the world of Marimekko patterns.
