No larger than the tip of a pencil and measuring only about 0.5-1.5mm in length, they are hard to see without magnification. In agricultural settings, researchers and farmers often use pheromone traps to monitor their presence. Although Trichogramma can vary in color, they are generally yellow or light brown, with a slender elongated body, long thread-like antennae, and delicate iridescent wings. The entire life cycle is relatively short with rapid reproduction and development cycles. Adult females can lay dozens to hundreds of eggs inside hosts, hatching into larvae in about 1-5 days. The larvae will feed on the host as it progresses through development for approximately 5-7 days. When the larvae is fully developed it will pupate inside the host for about another 5-7 days and finally emerge as adults, ready to continue the cycle.
