The Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio is our award winning license-free radio designed and tested in the Colorado Rockies. Created with climbers and skiers in mind, the radio is suited for any rugged adventure where communication is critical. A specialized lithium-ion battery provides over 4 days of battery life, even in very cold conditions (-20F). For enhanced durability, the radio has a shatterproof LED screen and thermoplastic protective covering. Unlike the fragile plastic clips of other radios, the Rocky Talkie easily secures to backpacks and harnesses using an ultra-light carabiner and back-up leash.The radio transmits the maximum power legally allowed for use without a license (2-watts). The max range is over 35 miles, however, 1 to 5 miles is more typical in backcountry terrain. The 5 Watt Radio uses a specialized lithium-ion, cold-resistant battery. The capacity is 1800 mAh and standby battery life is around 150 hours of standby time. Batteries come included with the radio, this is a spare battery that can be used to keep the radio running on long trips without needing to recharge. Each radio is hand-tested to IP67 waterproofing standards (1 meter submersion) and includes a water-shedding design for quick communication in white-water.The 5 Watt Radio maximizes two critical aspects of a backcountry radio: range and battery life. The radio transmits the highest GMRS power (5-watts) permitted under FCC regulations. The max range is over 35 miles, however, 2 to 8 miles is typical in backcountry terrain. The radio includes a specialized 1800 mAH battery that achieves around 4 to 6 days on a single charge, even in frigid conditions down to -20°F.Easily attach the 5 Watt to packs and other gear using the integrated steel gator clip (with 360-degree rotation) and backup leash. USB Power Adapter

This power adapter is compatible with both the Mountain Radio and the 5 Watt Radio. This product is only the AC wall adapter block and does not include a cable. It has a USB-A port, outputs 5 Volts with 2 Amps and accepts 110V and 220V. All radios include a UBS-A to USB-C charging cable that is compatible with this adapter. Rocky Talkie radios no longer include a charging adapter as part of our 2024 sustainability initiatives. You can purchase this adapter or use other 3rd party adapters such as phone or laptop chargers, power banks, solar chargers, or car chargers to charge your radios.

The Whip Antenna is a high-performance GMRS antenna designed to improve signal strength and audio quality for your 5 Watt Radio. It’s durable design and memory-resistant wire hold up in heavy use. For activities that push the limits of your radio’s range, the Whip Antenna can improve signal strength by 30% depending on terrain. This 38.8cm (15 inch) high-gain antenna is an optional accessory for the 5 Watt Radio. Please note each 5 Watt Radio includes a stock 7.5 cm and 17 cm antenna.
