Escentric 05 is a love letter to Cashmeran, an abstraction of summer on a Mediterranean island. Cashmeran, created in a laboratory at the IFF in the late 1970s, is one of the greats of synthetic chemistry. Warm and woody, with a resinous pine note, it has an unusually complex character for a single molecule. For Escentric 05 100ml, Geza Schoen wanted to recreate the experience of a Mediterranean island, drawing from his summers spent there. The scent pairing explores the idea of a modern Cashmeran fragrance with notes of bergamot, laurel, rosemary, cistus, fig, juniper, hedione, and of course, 15% Cashmeran. "What you notice as you walk up the path from the sea is how the heat changes plants and trees; they turn dry, resinous and aromatic," says Geza. "The top note of Escentric 05 is very simple: bergamot to keep things light, and orange, an ingredient which has an emotional tone to it, bright and happy. It reflects the orange groves that cover the island. Laurel and rosemary are typical Mediterranean plants with a spicy freshness. Juniper brings a herbal tonality, and cypress is a very dry, pungent wood." The drydown has two classic Mediterranean ingredients: cistus labdanum and mastic. Mastic is a resin produced by a small tree that grows especially near the sea. It has a sweet, leathery, balsamic quality. Cashmeran gives the fragrance its piney warmth. "I also introduced a subtle fig, both the bitterness of the leaves and the ripeness of the fruit. Figs had to be in there because there is a fig tree by our house on the island. Fig feels authentic to the place; it reminds me of the happiness of summer by the sea," says Geza. The result is an award-winning oceanic summer fragrance that isn't fuelled by lunar exotic boring florals and is instead charged with psychedelic freshness. Escentric 02 on the go. Escentric 02 is centred around the elusive power of Ambroxan (13.5%), a nature-identical amber molecule known for its sensual, almost mineral smoothness. In Escentric 02, Ambroxan is combined with the aphrodisiac notes of green jasmine bud and a sparkling 'gin and tonic' accord. The composition is further elevated by a hint of Almdudler and, as the nose Geza Schoen describes, "that specific smell you get when you unwrap a new Apple laptop." Ambroxan is a lab-created crystal identical to ambrox, a substance originally derived from ambergris—one of the most valuable and mysterious materials in perfumery—expelled by the sperm whale. Ambergris drifts in the ocean for years, slowly maturing into a substance with a beautifully refined scent renowned for its sensuality and depth. In modern perfumery, natural ambergris is exceedingly rare, and most fragrances use lab-created equivalents to replicate its distinctive aroma. The finest of these is Ambroxan, a molecule isolated from plant sources in 1950. Ambergris has long been treasured for its complexity and seductive qualities, and these characteristics persist in Ambroxan, ensuring that the essence of refinement remains. Geza Schoen describes the final effect as a "super long-lasting freshness into the drydown, with a subtle sensuality." Molecule 02 consists of the molecule Ambroxan pure and singular. Ambroxan is a crystal-chemical structure identical to the ambrox derived from ambergris. For centuries ambergris was perhaps the most prized ingredient in perfumery. It is a somewhat mysterious substance expelled by the cachalot or sperm whale, which only attains its fine scent after a long maturation floating in the ocean. Ambergris is rarely found these days, and the 'amber' in a modern fragrance will be a lab-created equivalent of some of the aroma-molecules that make up its scent. By far, the finest of these is the nature-identical molecule, Ambroxan. Ambergris was always valued for its refinement as well as its sensuality. This quality persists in Ambroxan. Ambroxan was isolated from plant sources in 1950. The maximum percentage that can be dissolved in a fragrance compound is 13.5%. Any more, and it begins to crystallise out of the solution. Most fragrances with 'amber' contain 1-2%. Molecule 02 is 100% Ambroxan in alcohol and a little water. This is best described as a fresh, almost mineral smoothness, which subtly expands to envelop you in olfactive layers of sensuous, sparkling molecules.
